Come discover Jamaica and find something new about life. Why not come to the eastern end of Jamaica in the Parish of St. Thomas. We can stay at Riverside Cool Cottages and enjoy the farming town of Sunning Hill, or we can travel around beautiful Jamaica.
Some places to go are:
Reggae Falls is a good place to go see, but even better yet, it is a good place to go with a group for a cookout and a day of relaxation. There you can swim, explore your surroundings, sunbathe and climb to the top of the falls.
The falls was a hydro-electric plant, but storms "mash up" most of the machinery and the plant closed. Now the water cascades over the dam's concrete lip, making a deep swimming pool at the base.
Great hiking trails await you on the east side of Jamaica. Here are some suggestions.
Hike to an abandon slave quarters, located in St. Thomas Parish, close to Mokko's and on the way to the Rasta Family's house. It was made by the hands of slaves out of white lime and cow shit, mixed with water brought from a nearby stream. All of the rocks are from the surrounding area.
If you go hiking from Mokko's toward Bath, in the foothills of the Blue Mountains, past the abandon slave quarters, you will come the Rasta family's house.
Nathan and Sandra are hillside farmers. Nathan will delight in teaching you Rasta knowlege and organic farming techniques. He loves to teach! You may be able to set up a day to work on the farm and learn/experience in a hands on manner.
A true taste of fast food, Jamaican style can be had at Scotts' Woods. This little fishing community has developed a food plaza where fresh fish and bammy are cooked, then sold to motorists through the window of the car. Locals pull up, pick their prepared fish, have it wrapped for transport, then speed away.
You can get out of your car (if the vendors who swamped the car will move back a likkle) tour the kitchens and meet the cooks. Hang out for a while and you may hear (or participate in) a spontaneous gospel sing.
Let Mokko be your Jamaican culinary guide, learn Ital (natural) cooking. The food is vegetarian with sometimes fish, chicken and beef if you choose.
Mokko cooks with a chili pepper called scotch bonnet, only as much as you want! Mokko will share his recipes.
