Jamaica Rasta Ecotourism Sunning Hill Community

In Sunning Hill Community, you experience Jamaican living. You move with a Jamaican rhythm and pace and do as the locals do.

Things to do:

Jamaica Hiking: Slave Quarters

Hike to an abandon slave quarters, located in St. Thomas Parish, close to Mokko's and on the way to the Rasta Family's house. It was made by the hands of slaves out of white lime and cow shit, mixed with water brought from a nearby stream. All of the rocks are from the surrounding area.

Hiking in Jamaica | Rasta Family

If you go hiking from Mokko's toward Bath, in the foothills of the Blue Mountains, past the abandon slave quarters, you will come the Rasta family's house.

Nathan and Sandra are hillside farmers. Nathan will delight in teaching you Rasta knowlege and organic farming techniques. He loves to teach! You may be able to set up a day to work on the farm and learn/experience in a hands on manner.

Feed De People Dem

A rainy day in Sunning Hill, Jamaica does not deter the townsfolk from participating in a community meal cooked on the banks of the local river.

Produced and organized by Strate and chefs Coke Dog and Moshi, they supply a sumptuous meal of rice and peas, brown stew chicken, juice and wine for all.

Lyssons Beach Jamaica

Public beaches are getting rare in Jamaica. Much of the prime coastline has been privatized, leaving little for locals to enjoy. But Lyssons Beach has enjoyed a comeback and rejuvination in the hands of locals for locals!

Morant Bay Jamaica

Morant Bay is a vibrant, bustling, truly Jamaican city. It is here that you can leave the hassles and haggling of the tourist areas behind and get a taste of a warm welcoming Jamaican town.

Morant Bay is the capital of St. Thomas parish. In front of the courthouse stands a statue of Paul Bogle, national hero, where he died in the unsuccessful Morant Bay Rebellion in 1865.
